The art of turning trauma into beauty
With a dynamic blend of poetry and prose, Bleed in Pages takes the reader on an emotional journey that brings to light the long-term effects of childhood trauma. The writer uses poetic surrealism to transport the reader into a world that is both fantastical and morbid—recreating her experience as a child. She then takes us through her first encounters with romance, in which her fragmented understanding of love manifests into an insatiable appetite for destruction. To her, obliteration seems like the only route to freedom.
At the edge of destruction, the writer meets someone who makes her feel something different—something real. She realizes her connection to her heart had been severed from childhood, and the only way to free herself from her past is to learn how to truly love.
Imagine a heart. Imagine a heart living in a body but severed from it. This heart beats in silence, feels in solitude, cries in blood. Unable to pump, the pressure builds, the walls stretch, the valve hisses. I reach the breaking point and grab the pen: I carve sharply into these breathing walls, and as I do, blood pours out of me and onto the page.
